Leading short sea operator Kursiu Linija has sharpened its schedules, added an extra weekly Rotterdam call and increased service frequency by consolidating its UK port calls at Immingham.
From early September Kursiu Linija will consolidate all UK port operations on the Humber at Immingham, instead of using both Ipswich and Teesport. The change will speed the service which will now sail every four days to and from Liepaja (Latvia) and Klaipeda (Lithuania). This consolidation of operations in the UK will also allow Rotterdam to benefit with a second call each week for the same two Baltic States ports. The vessel rotation will now be Immingham, Rotterdam, Klaipeda, Liepaja and back to Immingham.
The vessels deployed on the service are Mv Passaden (374teu) and Mv George Mitchell (301teu).
Martin Dale, Kursiu Linija Commercial Director, says, “This change is the first of a series of schedule enhancements which will see us giving our industrial and retail clients both faster and more frequent transportation on a wider network of routes. This will be achieved whilst maintaining the reliability and security which has been the bedrock of our expansion.”
Lithuania-based Kursiu Linija is a key short-sea door to door carrier linking Eastern and Western Europe. It currently operates three separate services. The ports that Kursiu Linija calls at are Klaipeda in Lithuania, Liepaja in Latvia, Gdansk in Poland, Immingham in UK, Rotterdam in Netherlands, Hamburg and Bremerhaven in Germany and Åhus in Sweden.
Kursiu Linija operates six vessels with a capacity of 300-650 teu and owns approximately 1,500 high cube pallet wide 45ft containers, dry containers, refrigerated containers and curtainside containers. Kursiu Linija will transport around 220,000 teu in 2006. The company handles transportation for Masterfoods, Procter & Gamble, Gillette and IKEA as well as for other companies.
