MacAndrews has boosted its short-sea services carrying fresh produce from Spain to the UK and Ireland, with the introduction of new 45ft Palletwide Reefer Containers.
This substantial investment comes in response to strong support and interest from a number of major supermarket chains, after successful trials using the 45-foot containers over the last twelve months. The new containers will be phased in on our twice-weekly W/C UK & Ireland Spanish services, and our weekly Felixstowe, Rotterdam, Bilbao service during October, to coincide with the start of the Spanish fresh produce season. The two loop weekly W/C UK & Ireland service calls at Bilbao, Bristol, Dublin, Greenock and Liverpool.
Mark Copsey, MacAndrews’ General Manager Short Sea Trades, explained that “For years fresh produce has moved by truck from southern Spain to the UK and Ireland. With the increased cubic capacity of the new 45’ containers we will be able to compete far more effectively against road-borne cargo. We have established a viable alternative short-sea option for our customers and we anticipate gaining an increased share of this market in the near future.”
